Cocoa Castle
A local gem in the sweetest place on earth.

Cocoa Castle is tucked into a peaceful pocket of Hershey, set just in front of the Derry Township Recreation Center on Cocoa Avenue. Surrounded by quiet streets and plenty of green space, it feels like a neighborhood secret calm, clean, and easy to get to. Despite its laid-back vibe, it’s only a few minutes from the hustle and bustle of Hersheypark and Chocolate Avenue. Whether you’re a local looking for an easy outing or visiting the area and want a low-key place to let the kids run, this spot is perfectly placed.
What We Loved About This Park
Mostly gated with only two open entrances feels safe, but if you’ve got a runner or multiple littles, you’ll want to station yourself near an exit.
No broken or unsafe equipment on any of our visits. Everything has felt sturdy and secure.
We’ve never found it too packed. It can get a little busy in the morning when the library has events (which is walkable from the playground)!
Things to Know Before You Go
The equipment is marked for 2–12 years old, but as a mom, I’d say it’s best suited for 3+ if you’re not spotting every move. Some of the climbing areas and slides might be a bit much for brand-new walkers or timid toddlers.
Mulch surface which is manageable with a stroller or wagon, but not ideal.
The playground itself isn’t shaded, but you’ll find shaded cool-down spots nearby thanks to the surrounding trees.
Porta potty only so you will want plan ahead of time if you’re in potty training mode.
Closest parking options are street parking right in front of the park; there’s also overflow behind the rec center.
There are paved walkways to the park and around the area.
The current play structures are not inclusive or specifically designed for accessible play.
Mom Tips
Bring snacks, water, and wipes no vending and porta potty only.
For younger kids (under 3), be prepared to shadow them closely.
A great pairing would be the Hershey Library’s Kid story time (check their website for more details), Cocoa Castle, and
Chocolate World. That’s a whole day wrapped up in one stop!
