Location: 520 E Emaus St. Middletown, Pa
Hoffer Park in Middletown is one of those spots that feels peaceful the moment you arrive. With its shady trees, wide open fields, and scenic river views, it’s perfect for a slow-paced day outdoors. My kids love the playground and always find new ways to explore, whether it’s chasing bubbles in the grass or watching the water flow nearby. A local gem for sure!
What We Loved About This Park
There’s plenty of parking available, though it’s set a short walk away from the actual playground, which is great if you have a little runner fewer worries
Several swing options are available, which is always a plus
There’s a designated area for toddlers (2–5) and a larger structure suited for older kids (5–12). My children chose the bigger park and had a blast
Tons of open grassy space behind the park for picnics or letting kids run around. You can even catch a peaceful view of the water benches and fencing make it mom-approved
Lots of benches and places to rest around the playground area
Pavilions & Event Spaces: Great setup for parties! We saw two outdoor pavilions and an indoor event space available for rent.
Things to Know Before You Go
Surface Type: Tanbark/mulch (not our favorite for little shoes or strollers)
The park isn’t shaded directly, but it is surrounded by trees. We visited on a cloudy day, so the sun wasn’t an issue, but it might be something to note on a hotter day
Wheelchair Accessibility: There are paved paths and open access to the playground, but the play structures
themselves aren’t built for inclusive play: On-site and about 100 feet from the play area. We didn’t check the cleanliness, but it’s good to know they’re available. May be shared with party guests
It wasn’t buggy during our visit, and while there were a few events happening, it never felt overcrowded
Set far enough from the road that it feels secure, and the fencing near the water adds peace of mind
Mom Tips
Bring a wagon or stroller that handles mulch well if you have younger kids.
Pack sunscreen or hats on sunny days limited direct shade.
Scope out the pavilions in advance if you’re planning a party here the indoor building could be such neat experience.
This is a great spot to bring snacks or a picnic lots of grassy space to set up a blanket.
Consider pairing your visit with a stop in downtown Middletown for a treat or lunch!
